I’m a huge fan of hymns. I love the stories they tell and how they are so full of truth. Lately, I’ve been listening to this one over and over again. As I sing the words, I can feel them filling my soul. I believe each word and it brings such comfort and joy to my heart. The version I’ve been listening to is a rough cut of my friends new album that is coming out soon so I can’t leave you a link to hear it just yet but here are the lyrics…

Sometimes, I struggle with trusting God. It’s not that I am afraid of one thing in particular or don’t have faith in God, but it’s in every day living. I’ve been learning not set too high of expectations of myself and others. As I let go and trust God more, I disappoint myself less. I have more patience when I’m open to God’s will and perfect timing. When I take the time to see people through Christ’s eyes, I am more compassionate. I have a better attitude when I make decisions based on truth and not my emotions. All of these things play into trusting God.

As I’ve been looking at my shortcomings and seeing where I could use some improvement, I’m asking God for help. By doing that, I am putting my trust in Him. It is such a great feeling. To fully trust God. It’s not a feeling that fades away but calmness & peace that goes so deep into my heart. Part of it is humbly going before Him and acknowledging my weakness, and the other part is allowing Him to change me.

I was reading old Xanga posts today…yeah, remember Xanga? Anyway, I used to write on that thing all the time. I want to do it again. Not write on Xanga because, who does that? It’s cooler to have a blogspot or wordpress. psh.

Really, I’m going to be blogging more. I want to. It’s great. I like writing about my life, what the Lord is teaching me and encouraging others. I also enjoy the feedback that comes with it. But for now, I leave you with lyrics to a song by Mute Math. Their music is sooo amazing but so are their lyrics.

Engaged

Here it is, my first post. I decided I’d start with my first blog post with GREAT NEWS — I AM ENGAGED! That’s right! Matt proposed to me on Sunday, October 19 and it was perfect.

We started our day with some apple picking at the Milk Pail out east in Water Mill and had a great time. We planned on going pumpkin picking next but Matt told me he had a surprise for me, a trip to the Montauk Lighthouse. I was so excited. I went to the lighthouse a few times when I was a kid, but don’t really remember it.

He had told me that he knew someone that worked in the Lighthouse Museum (which didn’t surprise me because Matt always knows someone, somewhere) and said that we would get “a hook up.” Awesome.

As we are walking up the stairs of the tower, Matt tells me that when we get to the top, we aren’t supposed to go in the top where the lantern is, but you can walk up to a certain step to see it. So we get to the top and it’s our turn to walk up the stairs to peek in the lantern room. As Matt walks up to the yellow line to see the lantern, (where we are supposed to stop) this nice lady who is working says to him “ok, Sir, you can keep going” and I’m thinking this is AWESOME he must know this person from church or the hospital or SOMETHING.

We go up the stairs together and it’s just beautiful. It is a small area just with the lantern in the center and perfectly clear glass surrounding. I felt like we were on top of the world looking out to the ocean. It was such a cool moment, just so peaceful. THEN it got even better. I turn around to see Matt and he was down on his knee with a BEAUTIFUL ring in his hands. I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe this was finally happening. I freaked out. I think this was probably the best moment in my life (so far ).

He asked me to marry him, I said yes and we enjoyed a great embrace at the top of the Lighthouse, with the ocean and seagulls as our witness…and of course the people in the tower below us. As we walked down, people congratulated us and clapped. It was really overwhelming and beautiful.

We snapped a few shots once we got outside and then called our families. I could cry again just writing about it. I can’t even begin to describe how excited, overjoyed and so thankful I felt. This man who I have loved for so long and this day I have dreamed about forever really JUST PROPOSED! We ARE GOING TO BE MARRIED!

I am so thankful to God for the amazing man He has brought to me to be my husband. I couldn’t be happier. My heart is full of so much joy that I cannot explain. I just want to laugh and cry at the same time.

Seeing the way that Matt loves me, and how he constantly forgives me, and puts me first in his life paints this BEAUTIFUL picture as to how much God loves us (Ephesians 5:25). It blows my mind away. To be loved by GOD and to try to understand it is almost impossible, but I think that’s why we have relationships. Relationships are fun and exciting but also humbling and can be tough. God loves us so much more than any person can, even with our screw ups and I am just so thankful for that. By HIS grace, through faith, we are promised eternal life with Him (Ephesians 2:8). No one else could love us more.

As Matt and I are in these early stages of planning our lives together, my hope and prayer is that people will see Christ in us at all times. We want to live with Christ as our center.
